Vilanculos is a small coastal town in the Inhambane District of Mozambique, This small town was named after a local tribal chief named Gamala Vilankulo Mukoke and some of the suburbs are named after his sons. The town’s actual name is Vilankulo but it was changed to Vilanculos when it was colonized by the Portuguese and then changed back to Vilankulo following independence and the district is known as Vilanculos. This town has grown extensively over the last decade, but the town itself is only about 5 kilometers long, but it is filled with all the amenities needed to make your visit comfortable yet local. The Airport is based on the outskirts of the town with flights arriving and departing daily. The town maybe small but this is the kind of place where one can truly experience the local flavours and cultures of Mozambique, whilst relaxing on the beach in what some might call paradise.
