Cape Town tourist information
The provincial capital of the Western Cape and the legislative capital of South Africa, Cape Town is just as famous for its governmental importance as for its beauty. Some of the most famous South African landmarks can be found here and tourists the world-over flock to this amazing city. There are some definite highlights that should be included in any visit to Cape Town. Table Mountain is iconic of the Cape skyline. There are great hiking trails to the top, as well as a top class cable car. You can grab a bite to eat while on the top, do a bit of shopping, or just marvel at the view. Another must-see for many is Robben Island. While not strictly in the city, Nelson Mandela’s previous prison cell can be viewed by catching a ferry from the waterfront. While at the waterfront there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is built on the docks of the Port of Cape Town and contains hundreds of shops and restaurants. There are also numerous ferries and tours departing from the waterfront throughout the day. If you happen to be in Cape Town between August and September, then Hermanus is a real treat. This is the breeding season of the Southern Right Whale and the annual whale festival is definitely one of the city’s highlights. For something slightly more cultural, the Artscape Theatre Centre is the main performing arts venue in Cape Town and caters for all types of preferences and show types. In addition to the wide variety of activities in Cape Town, the city is beautiful and has some of the most breath-taking beaches in the country. It is definitely a city where you could just relax and enjoy the view for a while…it will be worth it.
