Flights East London
Flights into East London arrive at the small but bustling East London Airport. The airport can handle daily arrivals of between 20 and 30 flights, and is an integral factor contributing toward the economic growth of the Eastern Cape. Along with general passenger services, East London Airport also offers a coffee shop, a bookshop and a restaurant. While it may not host international flights, around 15% of visitors to the airport are foreign tourists who have caught connecting flights into East London. Airlines fly directly into East London from South Africa’s major cities, namely Johannesburg, Durban Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Flights from Johannesburg tend to arrive and depart throughout the day from early morning until late at night, while the other cities have fewer flights concentrated either in mid-morning time slots or late afternoon/early evening times.

There are a number of resorts that, although they are near the city centre, offer a tranquil, country atmosphere. Most of the resorts provide chalets as well as camping facilities, and there are a host of outdoor activities ranging from golf to water sports on offer. They provide a great getaway opportunity that is ideal for romantic couples, families or just anyone who needs to get away for a while. Not too far outside of the city one will find 2 amazing game reserves. Mpgongo Private Game Reserve is slightly smaller but also houses lion, hippo, elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, antelope and a wide variety of bird species. For those who wish to view animals in a more contained environment, The East London Aquarium and the East London Zoo both come highly recommended. In addition to housing penguins, seals, turtles, dolphins and a variety of sea birds, the aquarium also functions as a centre for the treatment, rehabilitation and release of injured sea life. East London zoo is a treat for children and adults alike. With 47 different mammal species, 38 bird species and 7 reptile species on exhibit, you’ll be hard pressed for choice when visiting. Another place that warrants a visit while in East London is the East London Museum. There are a variety of different galleries to cater for a host of interests, and there is also a Coelacanth display as well as the opportunity to see the world’s only Dodo egg. There is also a rich Xhosa display.
