Thailand Info
Thailand is known as the land of smiles, and this is very true. Although, don’t for one second believe that there is no crime (but this is mainly small time pickpocket-crime). Most people will head off to Thailand to enjoy the pristine beaches (just like the one in the movie, “The Beach”). The beaches are stunning, the water is warm and the weather is hot (just don’t go in monsoon season). However there are other things to do besides the beaches. You could stay in Bangkok, which is big, loud and definitely a party city. Another idea is to head off to one of the forest island like Koh Lanta, where you can go on an elephant trek. Two other popular islands with tourists are Phuket and Koh Phi Phi. The exchange rate is roughly R1 = 5 Baht. Prices are very reasonable on the islands (especially the more remote) and of course more expensive in busy areas and cities. There are no ATM’s on most islands (or very few) so it’s a good idea to keep cash on you at all times. The food is spicy (and they will offer you curry for breakfast), but there will be plenty of food options avaliable so you should never go hungry. A great idea is to just stop off at a street food stall and order anything- it is bound to be good and cheap.
